ác nhà nghiên cứu trường ĐH Colorado (Mỹ) đã lấy 45 mẫu chất bám ở đầu vòi sen (được gọi là biofilm - quần xã tế bào vi khuẩn có trật tự, tạo thành trên mô chủ hay bề mặt rắn) đem phân tích và so sánh với mẫu nước trước khi chảy qua vòi sen. Kết quả cho thấy biofilm ở đầu vòi sen có chứa mycobacterium avium (vi khuẩn liên hệ mất thiết với vi trùng lao) với hàm lượng cao gấp 100 lần trong nước trước khi chảy qua vòi sen.
