Các sứ mạng không gian nhằm tìm kiếm những hành tinh khác ngoài Trái đất có thể bị làm xáo trộn do không thể phân biệt được những hành tinh đó từ quỹ đạo của các sao chổi xung quanh các ngôi sao tương tự, thậm chí ngay cả khi các sao chổi này rất nhỏ so với các hành tinh.
