Motoyaki Ashikari, một nhà nghiên cứu của trường, cho biết, ông và các đồng nghiệp phát hiện một số gene tạo ra “ống thở” trong các giống lúa chịu lũ. Sau đó các chuyên gia đưa những gene này vào những giống lúa cao sản.
