ại cuộc họp mới đây của Hiệp hội Địa Vật lý Mỹ, các nhà khoa học của Cơ quan Hàng không Vũ trụ Mỹ (NASA) lần đầu tiên thông báo phát hiện một sinh vật biển, có hình dáng giống loài tôm, dưới lớp băng khổng lồ ở Nam Cực.Các nhà khoa học cho biết sau khi khoan một lỗ rộng khoảng 20cm và thả máy quay phim đặc biệt xuống dưới sâu lớp băng dầy ở Nam Cực, họ đã phát hiện một loài động vật giáp xác rất giống loài tôm đang bơi lội tung tăng dưới nước.
